Theresa Fallon “Many people would like to see China play a constructive role, but I think now that we're in the third year of the war, this idea is wearing a bit thin.” 19 hours ago

Mahjoob Zweiri “What we have witnessed in the past few hours is that they talk about an agreement on the first stage. It could be understood that Hamas wants to release itself from the pressure globally, including the United States. So, they are giving concessions on the first stage, which leads to 40 days of ceasefire and exchange of captives. I think 33 old and sick captives. And then moving on to other stages. But we are seeing that we are going back to the main conditions, which means we are still talking about the main principles [complete ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza] that Hamas talked about. As the time of some sort of agreement on the first stage came, the Israeli military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to say actually, there is no agreement: We will go to Rafah regardless of any agreement. It reflects the divisions within the Israelis and crisis within the Israeli politics. On the other hand, Hamas has been more cautious. They do not want to show real progress made but they also do not want to say things have not changed. I think it's obvious some change has happened otherwise we would not expect [CIA chief] William Burns to be in the region.” 19 hours ago

The IPSEs are presented in chronological order based on when the IPSEs have been pronounced.

“The lower hospitalization rate is likely due to two things: greater immunity among the public from vaccines and prior coronavirus infection, and that omicron might be slightly less severe than delta. Vaccines don't stop infections with omicron, but they do reduce the risk of hospitalization by about 70% - with a booster shot, that figure is even higher. If you're a person who has no immunity at all, no vaccination and no prior infection or your prior infection was a year and a half ago and it was mild, you're not out of the woods. There is a reasonable chance that you will get very sick with omicron.”

“China must be more forthcoming with data and information related to the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. We need to continue until we know the origins, we need to push harder because we should learn from what happened this time in order to (do) better in the future.”

“When I go to the store this afternoon, what helps me is to know how much COVID is in my community. There will not be one state of the pandemic. There will be different states for different people and for different regions. And that's going to be the way it is for the foreseeable future.”

“People will need to be ready to adjust when the next variant comes along. You need to recognize that at certain times, it's going to be safer to do things than at other times.”

“People are sick of the pandemic and God knows I am, but unless we can get some urgency to compel our leaders to take action, I really see 2022 being a lot of more of the same that we saw in 2021.”

“We've overcome crises multiple times so far, but we are now having another crisis as another level. The number of new patients, critical patients and deaths are all increasing, and we are running short of hospital beds. If we fail to overcome this crisis, our attempt to return to normality may gradually fail. We need more vigilance and a united response more than ever. The urgent task is to have people get their third shots as soon as possible. We need to change the perception that the third shot is additional, to making it basic, and getting this third shot constitutes full vaccination.”

“It is hard to say that the global effort in fighting against coronavirus has gone up in smoke. Two weeks of data and lab materials are needed to make a precise judgment of the new variant. The vaccination rate in South Africa, where the new variant caused a jump in infection, is very low, with just 24 percent of fully vaccinated individuals. If the situation [in South Africa] occurred in Israel [where more than 80 percent are vaccinated], then undoubtedly, we would say the world is facing another round of a tough COVID-19 fight.”

“The regime thinks it needs to maintain a 'zero Covid' policy to maintain its legitimacy. At a huge cost, though... Outbreaks have become so commonplace that it's really a non-event. But the Chinese authorities want to control any small potential source of instability.”

“Vaccines can reduce the transmission of the virus, its severe complications, and its death rate, though it will continue to mutate and linger. However it could pose less danger over time and become something more akin to a seasonal flu. Humans must eventually learn to live with the COVID-19 virus.”

“I have not withdrawn the (idea of the) health crisis management agency. It's up to the coronavirus situation whether this command centre can be created in time for the current crisis. But in this era of infectious diseases, it is important to have such command tower-like function ready.”

“What makes it incredibly more frustrating is that we have the tools to combat COVID-19, and a distinct minority of Americans - supported by a distinct minority of elected officials - are keeping us from turning the corner. We cannot allow these actions to stand in the way of protecting the large majority of Americans who have done their part and want to get back to life as normal.”

“What makes it incredibly more frustrating is we have the tools to combat COVID-19, and a distinct minority of Americans supported by a distinct minority of elected officials are keeping us from turning the corner. I'm announcing that the Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees that together employ over 80 million workers to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week.”

“It's really anti-Trudeau; it's not anti-Liberal, it's not just anti-state, it really is almost ad hominem attacks on Trudeau. Far-right groups have been able to co-opt and exploit mainstream concerns around the coronavirus and weave them into their own narrative. There are multiple intersecting sentiments coalescing and it is a loose coalition, it appears that there's no sort of central organising force [behind the recent protests]. It's a bunch of individuals connected by those anxieties and connected by the targeting of Trudeau.”
