“We cannot allow what should be a lawful protest to turn into a violent spectacle that saves and serves no purpose. There's no place for acts of hate in our city. I want to continue to commend the professionalism of the police department and to thank Columbia University. It was a tough decision, we understood that. But with the very clear evidence of their observation and the clear evidence from our intelligence division, that they understood it was time to move and the action had to end and we brought it to a peaceful conclusion.”

“To maintain the required pace of the offensive … it is necessary to increase the volume and quality of weapons and military equipment supplied to the troops, primarily weapons.”

“North Korea has kept its moratorium on nuclear tests and ICBM [intercontinental ballistic missiles] launches so far while expressing a willingness for dialogue. But if it did fire an intermediate-range ballistic missile, we can consider it has moved closer to scrapping the moratorium. The latest launch was a challenge to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and diplomatic efforts by the international community, as well as an act that violates the U.N. Security Council resolution.”
“Egypt and Korea have been cooperating in economy, diplomacy, culture and various other fields. We, the leaders of the two countries, have recognized that the two countries' comprehensive cooperative partnership has brought reciprocal benefits to both countries and agreed to strengthen sustainable and future-oriented cooperation.”
“Korea and member countries of the GCC have economic structures that complement each other, and they have achieved economic progress and prosperity through reciprocal partnerships. The cooperation between the two sides is now expanding to various fields including healthcare, science, technology, defense, info-tech and intellectual property. The partnership is now entering the next dimension.”
“Peace on the Korean Peninsula does not come by itself and tensions are sometimes created on the Korean Peninsula. There are concerns that this could create tension and deepen the stalemate in inter-Korean relations. However, we must not let go of the chance for dialogue to fundamentally overcome this situation. North Korea should also make more serious efforts for dialogue. When the two Koreas work together and trust is built between them, peace will come to our side one day.”
“Our administration has proposed the end-of-war declaration in order to pass on a situation, in which the U.S., South Korea and North Korea are in talks, to the next administration. Close cooperation between Seoul and Washington is more important than anything else.”
“We've overcome crises multiple times so far, but we are now having another crisis as another level. The number of new patients, critical patients and deaths are all increasing, and we are running short of hospital beds. If we fail to overcome this crisis, our attempt to return to normality may gradually fail. We need more vigilance and a united response more than ever. The urgent task is to have people get their third shots as soon as possible. We need to change the perception that the third shot is additional, to making it basic, and getting this third shot constitutes full vaccination.”
“This [cutting carbon emissions by 40 percent from 2018 levels by 2030] is a bold objective that was raised by about 14 percentage points from the previous target. This is a very challenging task of having to steeply reduce greenhouse gases in a short period of time. It is not an easy task, but South Korea has decided now is the time to act. Following the inauguration of our government, eight coal-fired power plants were shut down. By the end of this year, two additional plants are scheduled to close. We will put a complete end to coal-fired power generation by 2050. Moreover, official financial support for the construction of new coal-fired power plants overseas has already been suspended.”
“The Nuri didn't perfectly attain its goal, but it has done a very good job in its first launch. If we check things and make up for what we lacked today, we will surely achieve a perfect success in our second launch in May next year. Satellites are increasingly used not only for broadcasting, communication and GPS, but also for environmental and disaster responses. We already manufacture and operate practical satellites on our own, but we have had to use launch vehicles from other countries. Now we can put our satellites into space with our own launch vehicles. Now, a new era of space exploration has opened. Over the past decade, the global space industry has more than doubled, and space development itself has become an industry. It is already a reality that ordinary people are sightseeing in space. A country that leads in space development will lead the future. The government will invest in the long-term so that Korea can become a space powerhouse.”
“A strong defense capability always has its goal in keeping peace. South Korea will pursue a smart military, based on cutting-edge technologies, and join global efforts to maintain peace.”
“Relationships between the two countries are experiencing difficulties due to several issues, but I think that we can overcome them together if we have the will and make efforts.”
“I have pride in our solid security posture. I have proposed adopting an end-of-war declaration, opening a new era of conciliation and cooperation, to the international community based on such trust and pride.”
“Though it is difficult to forecast the future, I don't believe North Korea has closed the door for talks. Though North Korea fired missiles last time, it is maintaining its own moratorium on nuclear and long-range missile tests, and maintaining low-key provocations, which are not serious enough to make the U.S. abandon dialogue.”
“I propose that three parties of the two Koreas and the U.S., or four parties of the two Koreas, the U.S. and China come together and declare that the War on the Korean Peninsula is over. When the parties involved in the Korean War stand together and proclaim an end to the War, I believe we can make irreversible progress in denuclearization and usher in an era of complete peace. I expect that the international community, together with Korea, remain always ready and willing to reach out to North Korea in a cooperative spirit.”
“I expect China's steadfast support for denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula. I hope the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics will become another opportunity for improving relations with North Korea, following the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.”
“Laws and rules related to the fake news bill should be considered thoroughly to prevent possible abuses, but it is also important to prevent malicious fabricated reports and protect those who suffer from such reports.”
“Division is the biggest obstacle blocking our growth and prosperity and simultaneously a tenacious barrier to permanent peace. Although unification may take some time, we can create a Korean Peninsula model, in which the two Koreas coexist and contribute to the prosperity of Northeast Asia as a whole through denuclearization and permanent peace on the Peninsula.”
“When it comes to the COVID-19 crisis - compared to any other advanced nation - our country is overcoming it in a stable manner. We will also surely prevail over this fourth wave fueled by the spread of the Delta variant. The inoculations are also approaching their target. In October, 70 percent of the total population will have received their second shots, and vaccination rate targets will be raised once more.”
