If Biden wants to prevent North Korea from acting out, he needs to first provide the government with new incentives to talk-and that means new restrictions Washington can use as carrots. Biden, in other words, needs to take North Korean policy off autopilot and launch a proactive effort to deter Pyongyang. Otherwise, he risks encouraging an already emboldened Kim to stage a major provocation.” 7 hours ago

Christopher Cavoli “Russians don't have the numbers necessary to do a strategic breakthrough. More to the point, they don't have the skill and capability to do it, to operate at the scale necessary to exploit any breakthrough to strategic advantage. They do have the ability to make local advances and they have done some of that.” 8 hours ago

“If there were still any doubts about whether there may be any trust in deliveries from Russia, current events clearly show us that there is no more trust. Since April 1st, Russian natural gas is no longer flowing to Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.”

“If you do not have the power to close the skies, then give me planes! If we are no more then, God forbid, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia will be next. Believe me. We are not attacking Russia and we do not plan to attack it. What do you [Vladimir Putin] want from us? Leave our land.”

“China is through multiple channels attempting to change the policy of mutual representation and strengthening of economic relations between Taiwan and Lithuania. As the EU has emphasized, this is a sovereign decision by Lithuania. Chinese tactics to pressure Vilnius have disrupted the global economic order. Taiwan will stand firmly with Lithuania and, together with our international allies, will take practical steps to support Lithuania through these difficulties. We will continue to deepen our friendly and close relations with Lithuania, demonstrating the solidarity and resilience of democratic nations.”

“The military presence is aimed at threatening Poland and Lithuania westwards, and Ukraine's north. The message is that Russia is able to conduct an operation that could seize Kyiv. They're stretching our limited resources, preparing for a possible assault and conducting intelligence gathering to see what capabilities we employ and how we react. It sends the clear message that they have the goal, capability and political will to apply military force in Ukraine if the West don't agree to [President Vladimir] Putin's demands.”

“Taiwan will use the fund to invest in the areas of semiconductors, lasers, biotechnologies and research in Lithuania. It will also send a team to assess Lithuania's aspirations to develop a semiconductor industry. An even larger fund for investments backed by Taiwan's central bank is in the works. Taiwan is committed to accelerate the process for Lithuania as Lithuania faces such unprecedented economic coercion in international trade history.”

“Secretary Blinken noted troubling public reports that People's Republic of China (PRC) customs authorities are not clearing Lithuanian shipments or shipments with Lithuanian components, and that they are rejecting import applications from Lithuania. The secretary underscored that such measures would raise serious concerns, including under international trade principles, and appear to constitute a form of economic coercion. Secretary Blinken highlighted US support for Lithuania in the face of these actions and reaffirmed the US commitment to work with like-minded countries to push back against the PRC's coercive diplomatic and economic behavior.”

“This [hosting exiled opposition leaders from other countries] is a flagrant violation of the UN's principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other sovereign state. In other words, Lithuania was 'awarded' by the US for violating the UN Charter. The least Vilnius should do is get cocky; it should be vigilant. Otherwise, the beacon will very soon burn itself.”

“Lithuania has become a beacon of democracy in the region, and that includes hosting exiled Russian and Belarusian opposition leaders, which sets an important example for others - other allies to follow. Now, we understand the challenges that you face. The regime in Belarus has been cynically using migrants as a hybrid tactic against Lithuania and its neighbors. And meanwhile, Russia is conducting a continuous hybrid campaign of its own. And now, China is increasing its pressure on Lithuania. I commend your government for its firm policy regarding China and we know that you have faced reprisals for your principled decisions.”

“Work with the US and Lithuania and take up the only morally justifiable course of action by implementing diplomatic boycotts of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing - or accept that you are endorsing some of the most horrific abuses inflicted upon a population by their own government in modern times.”

“Their visit marks the first time lawmakers from all three Baltic states have sent a joint delegation to Taiwan. Taiwan and the Baltic nations share similar experiences of breaking free from authoritarian rule and fighting for freedom. The democracy we enjoy today was hard-earned. This is something we all understand most profoundly. As the world faces challenges caused by the expansion of authoritarianism and threat of disinformation, Taiwan is willing to share its experience combating disinformation with its European friends.”

“MP-level visits do not represent official positions, nor will their people be willing to compromise their own interests for a little lip service from the US and the island of Taiwan.”

“The Lithuanian government, in disregard of the Chinese side's strong objection and repeated dissuasion, has approved the establishment of the so-called 'Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania' by the Taiwan authorities. This act creates the false impression of 'one China, one Taiwan' in the world, flagrantly violates the one-China principle, and renounces the political commitment made by Lithuania in the communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. It undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and grossly interferes in China's internal affairs. The Chinese government expresses strong protest over and firm objection to this extremely egregious act, and will take all necessary measures to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Lithuanian side shall be responsible for all the ensuing consequences.”
